Museum of Ceramic Arts · Comiso, Sicily
Ceramics
as memory.
Fifty years of Nino Caruso’s ceramic research donated to the city of Comiso. More than 120 works, three themed rooms.
The project
Form, space, thought.
The Museum displays ceramic sculptures and artefacts by Nino Caruso, an internationally renowned artist born into a family originally from Comiso, a city that always remained his spiritual homeland.
In accordance with the artist’s wishes, the project was conceived as a collection organised into thematic cycles, capable of presenting more than fifty years of research and his personal contribution to contemporary ceramics.
The Museum was born from an act of great cultural and civic value: the donation to the City of Comiso of a highly significant collection of works, with the aim of creating a place for study, production and the transmission of knowledge, capable of generating new opportunities for cultural growth in the local area.
In his own words
«An ancient way of making ceramics, recovered, renewed and invented, to create things with joy inside, communicated by hands touching shining glazes; outside, in nature, earth, water, fire, friends and love make you live young.»
— Nino Caruso, Ceramica Raku, 1982
